Opening night nears for Athlone Little Theatre's new play
Athlone Little Theatre’s 2026 season kicks off with a bang tomorrow night (Friday) with the hilarious murder mystery comedy A Murder Has Been Renounced by Lee Mueller.
The play runs from Friday, February 20, to Friday, February 27 next.
Only a few tickets are left for some of the performances, with many nights sold out.
For anyone who loves a good whodunnit, cosy crime drama or an Agatha Christie mystery, this highly-anticipated production directed by Joe MacCarrick will provide a great respite from the constant rain for an evening of laughs, twists and turns and, of course, murder.
Private detective Nick Dashell and his wife Darla's car has broken down in a storm. They seek shelter in a country house populated by some very odd characters. As mysterious events unfold, what follows is a night of mayhem, madness and murder.
The play is by American author Lee Mueller, who has written several pieces in the murder mystery style. Not widely performed this side of the Atlantic, Athlone Little Theatre is delighted to bring this engaging tale to local audiences later this month.
Taking its inspiration from the Agatha Christie genre, the play is packed full of twists and turns which will keep audiences guessing in this compelling whodunnit?
Bringing this drama to life on stage is a mixture of new faces and experienced actors. Paul Gallagher, Linda Butler, Lorraine Harney and Ray Kelly are joined by three new names to the theatre in Elizabeth Daly, Diana De Rishelie and Ursula Stronge.
Director Joe MacCarrick is excited about bringing this production to the Athlone stage.
“While the play is essentially a murder mystery, the characters are thrown into a situation which has many comical elements,” says Joe. “Audiences will find it very entertaining. The cast and crew are at full tilt and working hard as the countdown to opening night continues.”
A Murder Has Been Renounced by Lee Mueller runs in Athlone Little Theatre from Friday, February 20 to Friday, February 27 next. There is a Sunday matinée only on February 22 at 3pm.
