Draft map for residential zoned land tax is published
Westmeath County Council has prepared an annual draft map for 2027 identifying the land considered to be in scope for the Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT) as of January 1 2026.
Information and deadlines for submissions on the annual draft RZLT map and rezoning requests on the 2026 final map are available to view online on the council’s consultation portal and are available for inspection at Westmeath County Council, Áras An Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar, N91 FHAN.
The 2026 RZLT liability, aimed at increasing housing supply, came into effect on February 1. Local authorities have published 2026 maps identifying lands zoned for residential or mixed use liable for this tax this year.
Landowners with land on the 2026 maps can make a rezoning request. Evidence of the request allows you to seek a one-year exemption from the tax.
Draft maps identifying lands that may be subject to the tax in 2027 have also been published. Submissions can also be made regarding the maps.
The deadline for submissions and rezoning requests is April 1.
