Funding source sought for new Wansboro Park plan

Funding to devise a new plan for the future of Wansboro Park in Athlone has not yet been identified.

Westmeath County Council has confirmed it is considering developing an “updated plan” led by landscape architectural consultants for the Athlone riverside park.

However, it said this was “subject to sourcing a budget for the procurement and delivery of same”. It added: “To date a funding source has not been identified.”

The council was responding to Cllr Frankie Keena, who had asked when the amenity enhancement plan for Wansboro Park would be presented. The council executive, in a written response, said that masterplans currently being developed for both Burgess Park and Coosan Point should be finalised in the second quarter of this year, a process being led by external consultants. The council said it might be prudent to await the “final submissions” in these case to determine if the masterplan for Wansboro Park would mirror the same approach or be developed in-house.
