Roscommon U20s overcome Sligo challenge

Roscommon: 2-19 Sligo 0-15

The Roscommon Under-20 footballers claimed their first win of the 2026 Connacht championship with a decisive second half display to overcome Sligo.

Played at home in King & Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon trailed at one stage of proceedings by eleven points but managed to overturn that deficit and were ten points to the fore as the full-time whistle sounded.

St Brigid's player Charlie O'Carroll was the Roscommon scorer-in-chief, contributing eight points to the team's victory, while Nikita Berzins, Keelan Kelly and Diarmuid O’Higgins all produced stellar defensive displays over the game's duration.

A win was a must for Roscommon to sustain a presence in the Connacht championship following their opening provincial campaign loss to Galway (3-10 to 2-11) - see report in this week's print edition.

Roscommon will travel to Castlebar on Wednesday next (April 1) to play Mayo, before completing their provincial campaign with a game against Leitrim.
