HSE warning against scam texts
Scam calls and messages have become an increasing problem across the country in recent years, and the HSE has sent out another warning regarding recent reports of scammers pretending to be them.
There have been reports of text messages falsely declaring themselves as the HSE and seeking payment for medical cards renewal.
They are urging people to be vigilant when receiving any sort of communication like this, and to never give bank details over the phone or online.
If anyone is suspicious of a scam, they are encouraged to contact HSELive or report the fraud to An Garda Síochána.
In a statement addressing the situation, the HSE said, “HSE services do not ask for payment by SMS.
“We would urge people to stay vigilant on what texts they receive and remain cautious, especially if it is asking for payment or personal details.
“The HSE take these scams seriously and monitors the web for instances of scam websites purporting to offer HSE-related services.
“If we find a scam website or are notified of a scam from the public, we take action to try to get the site taken down.”
The HSE also urged people to make contact with any vulnerable friends or family so that they can be made aware of these scam calls and texts.
