Butler claims junior scratch cup in Donegal

Athlone Golf Club member Marc Butler claimed junior scratch cup honours in Donegal with a one shot win over a strong field at the weekend.

The tournament was played over two rounds with Butler shooting an opening day 81 and complementing this score with a 77 on the Sandy Hills course at Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort on Saturday.

Butler said it was the first time in 20 years that he had played 36 consecutive holes.

"Given the gale force weather conditions, the tournament was more of an endurance test, but I was obviously delighted with the outcome.

"I hadn't played 36 consecutive holes for such a long period, but having shot 77 on the second day of competition I knew I was in with a chance of chance of success.

"I'm thrilled with the win as I have been giving my game a lot of attention, both at home and at Athlone Golf Club," Butler said.
