Westmeath woman helps Bournemouth to silverware in cup competition
Former Athlone Town women's defender Jessica Hennessy was at the heart of the defence as her English side AFC Bournemouth claimed silverware last weekend.
Hennessy, a former underage player in Westmeath's LGFA ranks, helped the Cherries to victory against Plymouth Argyle in the final of the FA Women's National League Cup at the home ground of Queen's Park Rangers.
The WNL Cup is a competition for clubs in England's third and fourth tiers and Hennessy was chosen for the player of the match award after the final.
The Loughnavalley native played a starring role for Athlone Town when they reached a first ever FAI Cup final in 2022.
Afterwards, Jessica moved to Shamrock Rovers before signing for Nottingham Forest for a season.
She also played under football with Mullingar Athletic, Lucan Utd and Shelbourne. Jessica's father Seamus is a native of the Glasson/Tubberclair area.
