Holder of €1 million Monksland lotto ticket comes forward

The holder of the Athlone-bought ticket which won the top prize of €1 million in a Daily Million draw earlier this week has made contact with National Lottery headquarters.

The lucky ticket was sold at SuperValu in Monksland, and was worth a cool seven figures after Monday night's Daily Million draw.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery told the Westmeath Independent this afternoon (Friday) that the winner has been in touch and that arrangements are being made for the collection of the prize.

It's not known when the prize will be collected, but the spokesperson indicated that more details about the winner may be made available at that stage.

Remarkably, this was the second €1 million National Lottery windfall in Athlone in less than a week after a ticket purchased at the Corrib Oil service station on the Ballymahon Road won the same sum in the Lotto Plus 1 draw the previous Wednesday (March 25).

Yesterday, it was revealed that the €1 million Lotto Plus 1 prize had been claimed by a Westmeath syndicate.

Speaking earlier this week about Monday's €1 million win in Monksland, SuperValu Store Manager, Tim Dolan said: "We can't believe it – Athlone has had two big wins in the space of a week and we're delighted to be part of the excitement.

"There's a great sense of pride knowing this incredible prize was won right here in our store," he added.

"We've been proudly serving the community here in Monksland for 19 years, supporting locals across Roscommon and Westmeath, and we're hopeful this marks the beginning of many more big wins to come.

"Our staff and customers are absolutely thrilled, and we wish the winner every happiness as they enjoy their windfall!"
