‘Boxer’ visits Athlone firm's manufacturing hub

Local Minister of State Kevin 'Boxer' Moran recently visited pharmaceutical firm Solventum’s Athlone manufacturing hub at IDA business park in Garrycastle.

As well as a tour of the manufacturing facility, the Minister met with Solventum’s Irish leadership team to discuss training and jobs, critical infrastructure, and the challenges and opportunities impacting the medtech industry.

Solventum employs over 600 people in Athlone and Dublin, and is a global leader in medical-surgical, dental and health information systems.

The company's head of Government Affairs for Europe, Tony Bellis, said it was "a great pleasure" to meet 'Boxer' during his visit to the Athlone plant.

"The Minister was hosted by Plant Manager Kevin Finnegan and Ireland Country Leader, Robyn O’Leary," Mr Bellis wrote in a social media post.

"Following a plant tour there was a useful discussion about the competitiveness of Ireland as a place to manufacture MedTech products, the forthcoming Irish Presidency of the EU, and the capacity constraints of utilities infrastructure in the Midlands."
