Athlone Drug Awareness Group launches new website
The Athlone Drug Awareness Group officially launched its new website at an event held yesterday (Wednesday) in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.
Designed by Joe Glennon from Kickstart, the website aims to provide clear, accessible and up-to-date information on drugs and alcohol, along with direct pathways to local support services for individuals and families.
A central feature of the new website is its user-friendly design. Visitors are met with prominent contact details and clearly signposted sections for information relating to drug and alcohol abuse.
The site also includes straightforward call-to-action buttons, downloadable resources, and links to trusted national services.
Its layout allows users to contact support services directly from their phones, while an integrated contact form enables confidential enquiries.
Cllr Frankie Keena, chairperson of Athlone Drug Awareness Group, welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of the Athlone Drug Awareness initiative.
"Since our establishment in 1996, we have worked with the HSE, An Garda Siochana, the courts, and the wider community to raise awareness and reduce the demand for drugs," he said.
"This website will act as a central hub, guiding individuals and families to the supports they need."
He continued that, while young people are important, "this issue impacts the entire community".
Jim Henson, founder of the organisation said the group was created “to raise awareness and provide reliable information for parents and the community”.
He added that access to accurate information remains essential for informed decision-making.
The launch was attended by representatives from statutory and voluntary organisations, as well as by local secondary school students, denoting the strong collaboration between the wider Athlone community and the Athlone Drug Awareness Group.
