Gardai investigating two Athlone assaults in recent days

Gardai have been investigating reports of two assaults in Athlone town inside the last week.

The first incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning last, April 16, on Kilmacuagh Avenue in the Willow Park area.

Gardai said an alleged assault occurred on a man in his 20s, who was brought from the scene to Tullamore hospital for the treatment of "non life-threatening" injuries.

The Garda investigation into the incident are ongoing.

Subsequently, in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 19, officers responded to reports of an assault in the Dublin Gate Street area of the town.

"A male has been charged in connection with this incident and is due before court on a future date," a Garda spokesperson said this evening in relation to the Dublin Gate Street incident.
