Sun shines on Kilbeggan’s first race meeting of the season
On Friday 24th April, we were treated to some fantastic racing at Kilbeggan’s first race meeting of their season. The highlight on the night came from Willie Mullins’ charge in the Beginners Chase, when Supersundae, under jockey Brian Hayes, won by 17 lengths. The former supreme novice hurdle runner is surely one to follow this summer.
The William Hill Series Challenge final concluded in Kilbeggan and saw Philip Rothwell crowned the winning trainer of the series. Philip claimed the €50,000 prize. Paul Nolan came in in second place and claimed the €25,000 prize and in third place was Oliver McKiernan who claimed the €10,000 prize.
The jockey’s title went to Philip Enright, with Tiernan Power Roche in second place and in third place was Daniel King.
The winning stableyard staff went to Philip Rothwell’s team.
Earlier in the card, a gamble was landed from the Noel Kelly stable, when Fort Randall ran out an impressive winner of The William Hill Series Challenge Division 1 Handicap Hurdle. Other notable wins went to Gordon Elliott, winning a double and Jack Kennedy who also won a double, which puts him seven clear in the Jockey’s Championship, with only a couple of days to go.
All in all, the eight-race programme provided huge entertainment for the large crowd in attendance, with the weather playing its part, in what was a most enjoyable evening out for all.
Kilbeggan’s second race meeting of the season is on Friday, May 15.
