Fundraising match and social evening to honour late Bealnamulla man next Saturday

A community fundraising event in memory of the late Colm Doyle will take place next Saturday, May 9, with proceeds going towards Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
The event will centre around a friendly football match at Gentex FC, followed by a social evening in The Mill Bar, featuring music by 18-year-old Limerick musician Paddy Mullane, raffles and spot prizes.
Colm, a native of Bealnamulla, is fondly remembered by family and friends as a popular and much-loved member of the community.
“He was good friends with everyone,” his father, Gerry Doyle, said. “He was very popular and loved his football.”
The initiative was first put forward locally and quickly gained support, with organisers keen to honour Colm’s memory in a meaningful way.
“It’s a memorial for a young man from the community who passed away at just 40,” said organiser Sean Mangan. “Colm loved the game, so we decided to organise a football match, just a fun event that everyone can take part in.”
Approximately 40 players are expected to line out for the match, which kicks off at 5.30pm, with a large turnout anticipated from the wider community.
All funds raised will go directly to Mayo Roscommon Hospice, in recognition of the care provided to Colm and his family.
“The nurses were absolutely wonderful,” Mr Doyle said. “We feel we need to give something back on behalf of the family.”
It is hoped the event will become an annual fixture in Colm’s memory.
“This is what Colm would have wanted,” Mr Doyle added. “We want to keep his memory alive.”
Following the match, proceedings will continue at The Mill Bar from approximately 8pm, with entertainment on the night and a raffle in aid of the hospice.
“It’s just a fun day out,” Mr Mangan said. “Anyone who wants to get involved can come along, it’s about bringing people together and raising funds for a good cause.”
There is no admission fee, and donations can be made on the day.
As of Wednesday, April 29, an iDonate page set up as part of the event has amassed a total of €1,695 from some 37 donations.
“We’re hoping for a good crowd and to raise as much as possible,” Mr Doyle said.
