Athlone Bike Fest set to return
This year's Athlone Bike Fest will take place in mid-May, with local people being encouraged to dust off their bicycles and get involved.
The inaugural Athlone Bike Fest took place over the June bank holiday in 2025, but this year’s event is being planned to coincide with National Bike Week and will take place on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16.
Last year’s festival included a charity Spin-athon in aid of Esker House, a children’s treasure hunt, bike parade and impressive stunt performances, and fun events in Burgess Park.
Organisers said that, as the temperature rises and so does the price of petrol, there has never been a better time for people to dust off their saddles and join some of the the events currently being planned.
Athlone Bike Fest chairperson Morgan Fagg said, "Last year's Bike Fest saw an impressive number of events going ahead despite uncertain weather. This year we are looking forward to encouraging as many children as possible to cycle during Bike Week, and as many families and groups to join us for a cycle along the Greenway and to compete in the charity Spin-athon also."
This year's schedule of events is currently being finalised. For further details, follow Athlone Bike Festival on Facebook or contact: athlonebikefest@gmail.com
