A ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the new social housing development at Greally Park on Thursday, April 30.

The Deputy Mayor for the Municipal District of Athlone-Moate cut the ribbon at the new homes recently completed at Greally Park in Athlone, constructed by Westmeath County Council in partnership with O’Connell Construction Ltd.

In attendance at this event were Councillors Frankie Keena and John Dolan, Chief Executive Barry Kehoe, Director of Services Jackie Finney, Senior Architect Andrew Macken, and other members of the Westmeath County Council staff and representatives from O’Connell Construction Limited and Jennings O’Donovan.

The development consists of eleven one and two-bedroom houses and thirteen apartments and duplexes. All dwellings are sustainably designed to produce a low carbon footprint , achieve a BER A Rating performance and use the latest Air-to-Water heating technology.

The houses were designed by Westmeath County Councils’ own in-house architectural team, led by Therese O’Halloran with the assistance of Jennings O Donovan Consulting Engineers, Cuddy QS Chartered Quantity Surveyors and Hayes Higgins Partnership, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.

Speaking at the site of Greally Park, Deputy Mayor Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke said “This development of 24 new homes represents far more than bricks and mortar—it represents security, stability, and oppurtunity for the families and individuals who will call Greally Park home.

"At a time when housing remains one of the greatest challenges facing our communities, every new development like this makes a real and meaningful difference. It shows the importance of strong planning, good design, and a commitment to delivering homes that meet the needs of our people.”
