A Celebration of John Broderick event to take place in Athlone
An event to celebrate the publication of new editions of three of John Broderick's novels will be held in Athlone next week.
Westmeath County Arts Office and Lilliput Press are hosting A Celebration of John Broderick in Athlone Bookshop from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, May 13.
Long overlooked but now recognised as a quietly radical writer, John Broderick's novels were banned in Ireland upon their release. Now, the Lilliput Press with the support of the Arts Council and Westmeath County Council, are delighted to be publishing new editions of three of Broderick's masterpieces, The Waking of Willie Ryan, The Pilgrimage, and An Apology For Roses. Featuring introductions from Colm Tóibín, Nicole Flattery and Seán Hewitt, these new editions are the perfect place for readers to start. Rediscover one of Ireland's most underrated writers today.
The event will include a question and answer session between Catherine Prasifka, the John Broderick Writer and Residence, and Westmeath write Nicole Flattery, followed by readings from local writers Jackie Gorman and Tadhg Carey.
Tickets (free) should be reserved here on Eventbrite
Wine and refreshments will be served on the evening, all are welcome.
