The June Bank Holiday family market and fun day takes place in The Hollow at the Battery Bridge, on Sunday, May 31

May date confirmed for family market and fun day

A June Bank Holiday family market and fun day will take centre stage on the west side of Athlone on Sunday, May 31.

The Connaught Street & Environs Community Group will host its second market of the year in The Hollow, at the Battery Bridge, from 12pm-4pm.

The June Bank Holiday weekend market will celebrate talent, heritage, culture in the heart of the Connaught Street community with stalls featuring delicious food, handmade crafts and unique finds from talented local makers and businesses.

The organisers have commended the local vendors, makers, bakers, crafters, food producers and small businesses who continue to support the Connaught Street Market since its inauguration in August 2025.

'From bakers, hot food, honey, jams, chutneys, jewellery, crochet, knitting, wood carvings, glass art, papercraft, photography, art, candles, scents, sweet treats, personalised gifts, pottery, clay creations and so much more, every stall has skill, time, love and graft behind it.

'These small local businesses and makers don’t just arrive on the day. Many have spent hours, days and weeks baking, making, creating, carving, printing, painting and preparing and then they are there hours before the market even starts, setting up and getting everything ready for you'.

On the day, visitors to The Hollow can expect a sensory tent, free face painting, live music, delicious hot food, a nearby playground, and local pubs close by with live music and trad sessions.

'Come along, bring the family, support local small businesses, enjoy the atmosphere, and be part of something much bigger than what you see on the day.'

Don’t miss it!
