Go Purple Day for domestic violence awareness takes place tomorrow
‘Go Purple Day’ takes place tomorrow, Friday, May 15, with communities across the country encouraged to wear purple in support of those affected by domestic abuse.
The annual domestic violence awareness initiative founded by Athlone community Garda Stacey Looby in 2020, as part of an effort to strengthen community partnerships between domestic abuse services and Gardai.
The campaign, led by An Garda Síochána in partnership with domestic abuse services nationwide, aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and highlight the supports available to victims and survivors.
People are being encouraged to take part by wearing purple clothing, decorating workplaces, schools and community spaces, or updating social media profiles with purple-themed images and messages of support.
Since its launch, Go Purple Day has grown into a nationwide awareness campaign, helping to spark conversations around domestic abuse and encouraging those impacted to seek help and support.
Support services and information are available through local domestic violence organisations and through An Garda Síochána.
