Westmeath players dominate provincial scoring chart
As the Westmeath senior footballers continue to bask in the glow of their collective Leinster final winning achievement, individual scoring contributions to the cause have been reflected in the top scorer's chart for the 2026 provincial campaign.
The Lake County scored 13-92 in their four Leinster senior football championship outings starting with an impressive 5-25 against Longford in the opening round on April 12.
This was followed by 4-18 against Meath in the quarter-final, 2-21 in the win over Kildare in the provincial semi-final (after extra-time) and an impressive 2-28 dotted the scoreboard on Sunday in Croke Park following success over Dublin in the province's showpiece fixture.
Reflecting such high tallies, six Westmeath players have been listed in the 2026 Leinster SFC 'Top 15' scoring charts.
Corner forward Brandon Kelly leads the way with a total of 3-12, 3-11 of which has come from open play. His extra-time goal against Kildare proved crucial to Westmeath' semi-final victory, the Milltownpass player contributing 0-4 to the Westmeath scoreboard on Sunday.
Fellow corner forward Shane Corcoran also scored highly in the provincial camapign with a total of 3-8, all of which came from play. He is placed third on the top scorers list.
The St Malachy's club player scored a thunderous goal against Meath and contributed a point during Sunday's famous win at GAA HQ.
Luke Loughlin and Sam McCartan are placed fifth and sixth on the list respectively.
Despite being absent from the Kildare and Dublin games through long-term injury, Loughlin amassed 2-8 from play in his two Leinster SFC games, while McCartan scored 0-13 on the road to Lake County glory.
Pacey wing back Matthew Whittaker earned a place in the top ten with an impressive 1-7 scoring total.
The Tubberclair clubman set the tone against Meath with a fine solo goal and enhanced his prowess on the national stage with 0-4 in the Leinster final.
Centrefielder Ray Connellan, who earned the 'Man of the Match' award on Sunday with a majestic display sits in 13th position on the top scorers chart.
Although the Athlone club player didn't score in Sunday's showpiece fixture, his 0-9 and all round play has proved pivotal to Westmeath's provincial success.
