Olivia Rodrigo: New single The Cure is ‘thesis statement’ for upcoming album

Olivia Rodrigo has said her new song The Cure is the “thesis statement” for her upcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love.
The US musician’s latest video shows her as a nurse in a surreal 1950s hospital, injecting vivid red beating hearts made out of wool until they die and turn grey and lifeless.
Later in the video, she ends up as a patient in the hospital herself.
At the end, it is revealed the hospital is a cardboard doll’s house, and a modern-day Rodrigo tramples on it with her foot.
In a post on Instagram, Rodrigo said: “THE CURE SONG AND VIDEO IS OUT NOW!!!!!
“This song means so much to me and I’m so so so happy that it’s out in the world!
“Shout out to @dan_nigro for making it with me and being the best producer/songwriter in the game.
“Thank u @bead.lizard and @catsolen for creating this brilliant, imaginative music video that I adore.
“This song is the thesis statement of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and it made the whole album click for me. I hope you enjoy it xoxoxox”
Rodrigo previously described The Cure as “my favourite song on the album and one of my favourite songs I’ve ever made”.
It follows her previous single Drop Dead, released in April, which was accompanied by a music video featuring the singer dancing and running around the Palace of Versailles.
Rodrigo released her debut album Sour in 2021, which climbed to the top of the UK charts and won the best pop vocal album and best new artist Grammy in 2022.
The release was followed by her second album, Guts, in 2023 with her upcoming third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, out on June 12th.
The album release marks nearly a year since the singer headlined Glastonbury Festival, performing on the famous Pyramid Stage.
