All to play for as CCFL Senior Division reaches its climax
The fight to clinch the Combined Counties Football League Senior Division title will be decided on a potentially dramatic day of local soccer this Sunday (May 24).
Willow Park are currently top of the table and two points ahead of second-placed St Peter's. Both sides will play their final matches of the league season on Sunday.
Knowing that a win will secure the title, Willow Park will make the journey to fourth-placed Mountmellick Utd. St Peter's, meanwhile, are at home to second-from-bottom Clonaslee Utd. Both matches will kick-off at the same time on Sunday (11am).
Any points dropped by Willow Park could allow St Peter's back in the hunt, but only if the McCarthy Park outfit secure all three points against Clonaslee having dropped two valuable points in a draw against Temple Villa last midweek. They followed up that result with victory against Coolraine last weekend to keep their title ambitions alive.
If the teams finish level on points at the end of Sunday's games, a title-deciding play-off will be held to determine the champions. Both teams have only lost twice the league season (from 15 games) but Willow's extra victory, at this stage, leaves them as favourites to seal the deal this coming Sunday.
