Lough Ree RNLI urges public to avoid blocking Coosan Point access routes
Lough Ree RNLI is appealing to visitors at Coosan Point over the Bank Holiday weekend to ensure access routes to the lifeboat station, slipway and water remain clear at all times.
The volunteer crew will remain on call throughout the busy holiday period as increased numbers are expected around Lough Ree and Coosan Point.
Like many RNLI stations located in popular amenity areas, the station near Athlone experiences significantly higher footfall and traffic during holiday weekends.
Lough Ree RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat Manager Dave McCourt said: “While the volunteer crew remain on standby it is important that they have easy and safe access to the station, the slipway and the water over this weekend."
The RNLI is asking visitors to park responsibly, follow local signage and avoid blocking access routes used by the lifeboat crew and emergency vehicles.
The charity is also reminding people that although air temperatures may be warm, inland water temperatures remain cold and can quickly lead to cold water shock.
Anyone planning water activities is advised to enter the water slowly, wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid, avoid going alone and carry a means of calling for help.
In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
