Two men in their 20s are due to appear before Athlone District Court today (Friday) after Gardai seized over €90,000 worth of drugs at a home in the town yesterday.

An Garda Siochana said that the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit, supported by the Garda Dog Unit, DDU Athlone and student Gardaí consucted the search at a domestic residence in Athlone on Thursday

"During the course of the operation, Gardaí seized €85,000 of suspected cocaine, €8000 of suspected cannabis, €2000 cash and electronic devices of evidential value," said the Garda press office.

Two men in their 20s were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a Garda Station in the East of the country.

They have since been charged and are due to appear before Athlone District Court this morning at 10.30am.

Gardai said the seized drugs would be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis, and that investigations into the case were ongoing.
