Tang NS pupils claim FAI schools national title
The pupils of Tang National School claimed national honours at the FAI Schools Primary 5s National Finals Day, in the Aviva Stadium Dublin on Tuesday.
Representing Leinster in the Boy's 'A' Cup, small schools competition, the Westmeath team won all three fixtures to claim the title and return to the school with the sought after silverware.
The competition was group based and the school with the highest points tally following their three outings on the Aviva Stadium sod were the overall winners.
In their first match, Tang NS defeated Scoil Cholmáin Tuairíní (Galway) 3-2 and this was followed by a 5-2 win over Gaeilscoil Cois Feabhail (Donegal). The same scoreline was repeated in their final outing when the boys defeated Knockanore NS (Waterford).
To add to the Tang NS celebrations, Gavin Higgins was named 'Player of the Tournament' following the trophy presentation.
The school's achievements were recognised by Tang GAA who extended sincere congratulations to the outstanding young footballers from Tang NS - Ruairi Brennan, Daithi Murray, Jack Fahy, Robert Keenan, Gavin Higgins, Harry Stanley, Issac Sloyan, Luke Kelly and their coach, Mr. Horan.
'To represent your county and province on the national stage is a phenomenal achievement and one that should make the entire community immensely proud.
'This great achievement comes on the back of their recent success in winning the final in Cumann na mBunscol under the management of Ms. Behan and Mr. Killane who trained and managed the team'.
