Athlone pub The Brazen Monkey closes its doors

Athlone pub The Brazen Monkey, at 41 Church Street, officially closed its doors on Sunday, May 31.

Having first opened in 2022, The Brazen Monkey was run by Ivor Mullin, a member of the Irish Defence Forces at Custume Barracks.

The pub became a popular local spot for live music and entertainment, frequently hosting local bands and singers, as well as DJ nights.

"The doors of the Brazen Monkey have officially closed," Ivor wrote.

"Thanks to each and every person who has crossed the threshold over the past 4 and a half years. Many thanks to all our family and friends who came in at the weekend to bid us farewell, we really appreciate it.

"We would like to wish the new leaseholders the very best in the future."

The prominent town-centre unit has operated as a pub under a number of different ownerships over the years, and previously traded as The Malt House and 41's.
