'Something in the air' at Athlone Golf Club as two players shoot holes-in-one

Athlone Golf Club reckons there "must be something in air" after two players shot holes-in-one on the lakeside course in recent days.

It began last week, when Bernie Watson produced a brilliant hole-in-one on the 17th. "She hit a majestic 7 iron to pop it straight in," said Athlone Golf Club.

This was followed up by Willie Owens, who found the hole with a single swing of his club on the difficult 6th.

In a social media post, the club praised the achievement of its veteran member, saying that, in addition to his hole-in-one, Willie "went on to win the weekend competition where he scored 44 points in very wet and windy conditions".
