New Buccaneers president elected as U16 girls enjoy Connacht session

Seán Flynn has been elected as President of Buccaneers Rugby Football Club. A lifelong figure in the club, Seán first pulled on the jersey at U-10 level 27 years ago at Dr Keane Park on the Ballymahon Road in Athlone.

He has remained deeply involved ever since including playing with the club’s Seconds and Thirds in the season just ended when he also found time to manage the Buccaneers U-20 team that retained their Leinster League title.

Outside of rugby he plies his trade in the family business, Flynn’s Funeral Directors in Athlone, and currently resides in The Strand with his partner Áine. ‘Roundy’ is an effervescent and popular figure around Buccs and his election marks a proud milestone for Seán, his family and the local community.

Meanwhile, Buccaneaers U-16 girls were the winners of a coaching session, sponsored by Corrib Oil, at Connacht Rugby recently. It proved a memorable and worthwhile occasion for the girls as they received coaching tips from Connacht coach John Muldoon. He was assisted in the drills by the Murray brothers, Darragh and Niall, along with Ben Murphy.

Prior to heading to the Dexcom Stadium, the girls visited the Corrib Oil store on the Ballymahon Road, Athlone, where shop manager Aine Ni Chuanaigh congratulated them and presented them with goodie bags. All in all, it a most enjoyable learning event for the girls.
