New Academy Head of Coaching appointed at Athlone Town FC

Athlone Town FC has announced the appointment of Cillian Fitzpatrick as the club's new Academy Head of Coaching.

In his role, Cillian will lead the development and support of coaches across the academy structure.

The role will focus on coach education, coaching standards, implementation of the club’s playing philosophy, mentoring and supporting academy staff, and ensuring a consistent development experience for players across all age groups within Athlone Town AFC.

Cillian brings a strong background in player and coach development and is highly regarded within Irish football for his knowledge, professionalism and commitment to developing people.

He has extensive experience working within academy environments and has built a reputation for supporting coaches, raising standards and creating positive learning environments.

His appointment represents a significant investment in the development of both coaches and players across the club.

Speaking on his appointment, Fitzpatrick said he was excited about the future in his new role with the club.

“Athlone Town is a club with a clear ambition to develop players, coaches, and teams across all levels of the pathway. I’m looking forward to working alongside the staff, players and volunteers to help build an environment where people can learn, improve and reach their potential," Fitzpatrick said.

Technical Director Brian Shelley said Fitzpatrick emerged from a very competitive recruitment process.

"Our new Academy Head of Coaching impressed throughout the interview process with his passion for coach development, attention to detail and alignment with the direction we want to take as a football club.

"His appointment strengthens our academy structure considerably and demonstrates our commitment to creating the best possible environment for the development of both players and coaches at Athlone Town AFC," Shelley added.

Also speaking about the new appointment, CEO Steven Gray noted that Fitzpatrick has a "credible history of talent development in this country".
