American football finals set for Athlone

American Football Ireland (AFI) has announced that its two showpiece events of the year will be taking place in Athlone next month.

The AFI 2026 Harp Bowl and Shamrock Bowl Championships deciders will be staged at Dubarry Park, the home of Buccaneers RFC, on Saturday, July 18.

According to the AFI, the occasion is 'the biggest day in the Irish American football calendar that brings together the best teams in the country as they battle for championship glory'.

At present, there is one local team competing in the AFI, Westmeath Minotaurs, who are currently in fourth position in the AFI's second-tier.
