Tang woman thanks public as niece drives on cancer fundraiser

In thanking the public for its support following a recent interview in the Westmeath Independent, Tang resident Bogusia Nawara has revealed a further fundraising effort, by her niece, to aid with her ongoing effort to raise funds for advanced treatment of stage IV lung cancer.

Recently, Bogusia spoke of her shock at the diagnosis having lived a healthy lifestyle for so long. But since starting a gofundme page to seek access to further therapies and treatment options (she is currently receiving active treatment in Ireland), she has been overwhelmed by the level of local support. The page has so far raised over €7,000 and she felt compelled to thank everyone for the support to date.

To further aid the cause, her Polish-based niece, 18 year-old Martyna, has today (Wednesday) embarked on a 240km fundraising walk along the Camino de Santiago through Spain and Portugal. She will be walking to raise awareness and support for the cause, sharing Bogusia's plight along the way through social media, posters, and leaflets.

At the end of June, Martyna and her friends will continue the challenge by climbing Mont Blanc, and Bogusia said she is moved by her niece's efforts.

“I was speechless about this,” said Bogusia.

“She is a great girl and I am very proud of her. I am also very grateful to everyone who has donated so far. I really appreciate everything,” she said.

“Every social media share, every message, and every person we reach gives me more hope that I will be here to watch my son grow up,” she added.
