End of an era as Carmelite auction is discontinued

The Carmelite order has taken the decision to discontinue the annual Carmelite auction in Moate.

The news is outlined in a message from Fr Michael Troy, of the Carmelite Order: "On behalf of the Carmelite community, I wish to express our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to all who have contributed over the years to the success of our annual auction.

"Through your dedication, enthusiasm, and hours of voluntary service, the auction has raised much-needed funds to support the upkeep of our church. Your efforts have helped ensure that our church remains a welcoming place of prayer, worship, and community for all people.

"As we reflect on the years of successful auctions, we do so with immense gratitude. We thank all committee members, past and present, every volunteer, donor, sponsor, and supporter who played their part. Your contribution has made a difference to our Carmelite Church and priory community.

"After careful consideration, we have come to the difficult decision that the annual Carmelite auction has reached the end of its life. In recent years, it has become increasingly challenging to secure the number of volunteers required to organise and run such a large event.

"In addition, evolving health and safety requirements and practical considerations have made it more difficult to continue the auction in the manner to which we have become accustomed.

"There is sadness in bringing the auction to an end, but over the coming weeks we will be exploring new fundraising initiatives and events.

"If you have any ideas about fundraising, please let us know as all ideas will be taken on board. Of course, we will continue to depend on your ongoing support, generosity and willingness to get involved in future events.

“May God bless you abundantly for your kindness, generosity, and faithful support. Be assured of our continued prayers and gratitude."
