Connolly tipped to become new Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council
The new Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council is to be elected this coming Monday, June 22, with Cllr Domnick Connolly tipped to assume the chain of office.
The Fine Gael councillor from Fuerty was re-elected to the council in 2024, having lost his seat at the previous local elections in 2019.
Another member of the Athlone Municipal District in Roscommon, Independent councillor Laurence Fallon, is expected to be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the county council during Monday's AGM.
An alliance of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, with Independent support, holds the balance of power in the Roscommon council chamber.
The outgoing Cathaoirleach is Fine Gael's Cllr Liam Callaghan, and the outgoing Leas-Cathaoirleach is Fianna Fáil's Cllr John Keogh.
