Big step forward in Glasson public car park plans
Westmeath County Council has confirmed it has completed the acquisition of land at Glasson Garda Station to be used as a public car park.
The council said detailed design for the proposed off-street public park is now underway and it hopes to progress the project subject to the identification of a suitable funding source.
The site, which has been under Office of Public Works ownership, is at the rear of the garda station in the centre of the village.
Cllr Frankie Keena, who had sought an update from the council, welcomed progress on the proposal.
“This will be really beneficial for the village of Glasson,” he said, citing the ongoing incidence of cars parking on footpaths in the village.
Cllr Keena praised the work of the Tubberclair Local Action Group, who had highlighted the need for the project as part of a recent development plan for the area.
He said the key now was to complete the design work, ensure the community is on board, and to get the work done.
