End of an era as Carmelite auction comes to a close

The Carmelite order has taken the decision to discontinue the annual Carmelite auction in Moate.

In a statement, Fr Michael Troy of the Carmelite Order said: "After careful consideration, we have come to the difficult decision that the annual Carmelite auction has reached the end of its life. In recent years, it has become increasingly challenging to secure the number of volunteers required to organise and run such a large event.

"In addition, evolving health and safety requirements and practical considerations have made it more difficult to continue the auction in the manner to which we have become accustomed."

On behalf of the Carmelite community, he thanked all who contributed over the years to the success of the annual auction.

"Through your dedication, enthusiasm, and hours of voluntary service, the auction has raised much-needed funds to support the upkeep of our church. Your efforts have helped ensure that our church remains a welcoming place of prayer, worship, and community for all people."

"There is sadness in bringing the auction to an end, but over the coming weeks we will be exploring new fundraising initiatives and events," he said, inviting people to pass on any ideas about fundraising.
