Athlone Canal Heritage Group begin canal walk upgrade

Athlone Canal Heritage has shared progress on the enhancement of the Shannon Banks Nature Trail canal walking route under the Community Recognition Fund.

As part of the project, a contractor has been engaged to improve the walking surface along the section of the canal between Magazine Avenue Bridge and Battery Road Bridge.

The works are being carried out to provide a safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable route for walkers and other users.

The first stage of the project, covering the section between Galway Road Bridge and Magazine Avenue Bridge, has now been successfully completed.
