Athlone Town add two to senior women's squad

Athlone Town has announced two additions to its senior women's squad.

Both new signings have come from English football, with Phoebe Hampson joining the club from Plymouth Argyle, and Sofia Stovald from Real Bedford Women.

Both were on the bench against Peamount United for Saturday's Club Orange Women's FAI Cup second round tie, with Stovald scoring Athlone's second in a 2-0 away win.

The club described Hampson as a "talented and hardworking player" who would add quality, energy and competition to the squad.

Sofia Stovald arrives from Real Bedford Women, where she played an important role in the club’s promotion winning campaign.

"A commanding centre back, Sofia brings leadership, composure on the ball and a strong defensive presence, making her an exciting addition to the squad," the club said.
