Westmeath’s sustainability leaders invited to enter respected resource awards

Businesses, community groups, schools and organisations in Westmeath has been invited to enter this year's Repak Resource Awards, after the nationwide environmental awards officially opened for entries today (July 9).

According to organisers, potential Westmeath entrants are invited to showcase the initiatives, innovations and people driving progress towards a more circular economy.

The awards are designed to celebrate organisations and businesses delivering impact through waste prevention, recycling, resource efficiency, packaging innovation, reuse and refill initiatives, and circular economy solutions, Repak said.

Westmeath winners from 2025 include Flamers, who were awarded the 'Innovation in Waste Resource Products or Services Award' for diverting timber waste from landfill and producing Flamers Woodlogs, a recycled solid fuel.

In a press release highlighting this year's event launch, organisers said that winning a Repak Resource Award 'provides national recognition to position recipients as dynamic and innovative leaders in sustainability'.

New award categories have been introduced to celebrate innovation in prevention, reduction, reuse and refill, recognising the organisations and initiatives developing practical solutions to reduce environmental impact and accelerate Ireland's circular economy, Repak said.

New categories this year include 'Sustainability Team of the Year', 'Best Recovery Operator Innovation', 'Innovation in Sustainable Packaging Design', and 'Innovation in SUP Reduction/Removal'.

The awards are free to enter and entries close on Monday, August 31. The finalists will be announced in September, with winners revealed at a ceremony at The Mansion House, Dublin, on Friday, October 23.

Commenting on the launch of the awards, Zoe Kavanagh, CEO of Repak, said: "We encourage businesses, organisations, schools, community groups and individuals in Westmeath to enter the 2026 Repak Resource Awards and showcase the incredible work they are doing.
