Popular local playground to be closed until next week

A busy Athlone playground will be unavailable to use in the coming days.

Roscommon County Council has confirmed that the playground in Monksland will be closed until Monday, July 13 for maintenance works. The popular playground is located on the old Tuam Road, Athlone and beside the Monksland Community Centre.

The council has issued its apologies for any inconvenience it might cause.

The news will likely lead to even more visitors swarming towards the nearby Monksland Park facility over what is predicted to be very warm conditions this weekend.

The Monksland Park, based beside Monksland Business Park and opened last year, features a skate park, basketball court, table tennis, and a play area including a climbing frame, slide, and a merry-go-round, as well as a number of picnic benches and modern amphitheatre seating.
