Funeral details announced for Athlone teen who died in Lough Ree tragedy

The funeral Mass of Martin Greene, the 15-year-old Athlone boy who tragically drowned in Lough Ree on Saturday evening, will take place in Coosan on Thursday.

Martin will be reposing at his home, 7 Brawny Close, Athlone (Eircode: N37 Y4D9) all day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

His funeral Mass will take place in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Coosan, on Thursday at 11am on Thursday, followed by burial afterwards in Coosan Cemetery.

The death of the Athlone Community College student, who got into difficulty in the water off Carnakilla Point, at Portlick in Glasson, on Saturday evening, has caused widespread shock and sadness in Athlone and further afield.

His family expressed gratitude to all of the coaching staff of St Francis FC and Athlone GAA Club "for all the assistance and support they have received" in the last couple of days.

Martin is sadly missed by his heartbroken mother Yvonne, brothers John and Peter, sister Caroline, girlfriend Annie, grandmother Winnie, niece Savannah, nephews Thomas, Christopher and John, aunts, uncles, relatives and many friends.
