Athlone Town to play Polish opponents in Champions League

Athlone Town will play Czarni of Poland in the Women's Champions League first qualifying round mini tournament final on Saturday evening at 5pm.

Athlone progressed to the final with a comfortable 4-0 win over North Macedonia club ŽFK Skopje 2014 on Wednesday morning at Zagłabiowski Park Sportowy in the Polish city of Sosnowiec.

Their final opponents also had a comprehensive victory on Wednesday evening, defeating Georgia team WFC Nike on a 7-1 scoreline.

The first and second qualifying rounds of the Women's Champions League are played in the form of mini-tournaments with semi-finals, a final and a third-place match, all single-leg ties, hosted by one of the participating clubs.

Should Athlone win Saturday's mini tournament final, they will progress to the second qualifying stage of the competition, while a defeat will see Lily Agg's team go into the UEFA Women's Europa Cup.
