Tubberclair parish priest's retirement event rescheduled

A special Mass and social gathering to celebrate Fr Seamus Mulvany's 33 years as parish priest in Tubberclair will take place next month.

The event was initially due to be held on July 5, but was postponed and has now been rescheduled for Sunday, August 9.

Mass will be celebrated at 3pm on the day, and will be followed by refreshments in St Clare's National School.

Fr Mulvany is retiring after more than 60 years in the priesthood.

A native of Wilkinstown in Meath, he was educated in St Finian's College, Mullingar, and in Maynooth prior to his ordination in 1965.

In the 1960s he had spells based in Tullamore and with the Irish Chaplaincy in London. In 1969, he returned to the Meath diocese, where he served in the parishes of Beauparc, Kentstown and Ashbourne, before being appointed parish priest in Tubberclair in 1993.

The Diocese of Meath last month announced that Fr Barry Condron, who had been the parish priest of Castletown-Geoghegan and Tyrrellspass, would be succeeding Fr Mulvany as the new parish priest in Tubberclair.
