Country music star and husband to open new Athlone pub this weekend

Country music star Cliona Hagan, and her musician husband Simon Sheerin from Tang, will open a new business venture in Athlone over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Mary Mc's, a gastropub based at Church Street (at the former Brazen Monkey premises), will be run by Cliona – a Dancing With The Stars finalist – her husband, some of his family members, and local businessman Colin Harris.

Church Street's newest addition will officially open its doors on Friday, July 31, and, as well as serving food and beverages, it is believed the owners have plans to make it a top location for music.

A native of Ballinderry, Tyrone, Cliona has established herself as one of the country's most popular figures on the country music scene in recent years.

Her husband is also renowned for his musical talents, including his involvement with the renowned Sheerin Family Band.
