Local participants ready for action at famous Galway Cup

Three teams from the local area has travelled west today (August 4) to take part in the prestigious Galway Cup.

Athlone-based club St Francis has entered a team in the 2013 girls competition, where it will face the Roscommon & District Youth Schoolboy/Girls League (RDYFL), Limerick County League and Salthill Devon (tournament hosts).

St Francis and Roscommon will play against each other on Wednesday at 11.05am.

The Midlands Schoolboy/Girls League will also partake, having entered into the Salthill Sisters section of events, where it will play group games against Limerick Desmond League, Galway FA and Shelbourne FC.

The Galway Cup has long been one of the standout tournaments in Irish schoolboy/girls soccer, and this year sees teams from Leeds Utd and Liverpool taking part. All participating teams are guaranteed a minimum of four matches over the tournament's duration, with matters culminating with the various finals on Saturday, August 8. A total of 58 teams has entered across the tournament's various age categories, and all matches are played at NFT Park, Drom East, Galway.
