Country music star and husband to open Athlone gastropub this weekend
Country music star Cliona Hagan, and her musician husband Simon Sheerin from Tang, will open their new business venture in Athlone tomorrow (Friday).
Mary Mc's, a gastropub based at Church Street (at the former Brazen Monkey premises), will be run by Cliona – a Dancing With The Stars finalist – her husband, some of his family members, and local businessman Colin Harris.
The gastropub was due to open on July 31, but was rescheduled owing to the passing of Simon's father, Dan.
The newest addition to Athlone's hospitality scene will serve food and beverages and it is believed the owners have plans to make it a top location for music.
Taking to social media to confirm Mary Mc's official opening tomorrow, Cliona said she was "beyond excited" for the opening of the gastropub and looked forward to welcoming the public to an "amazing place".
A native of Ballinderry, Tyrone, Cliona has established herself as one of the country's most popular figures on the country music scene in recent years.
Her husband is also renowned for his musical talents, including his involvement with the renowned Sheerin Family Band and Take It To The Limit, the ten piece supergroup who celebrate the music of The Eagles.
