Midland Warriors tag rugby festival set to become annual event

Chloe Egan of Midland Warriors RFC makes a presentation to Leah Turner (captain of the Wooden Spoon winners in the tag rugby festival).The inaugural Midland Warriors RFC Tag Festival was hailed as a tremendous success, with more than 80 players taking part in a day that combined competitive rugby, community spirit and plenty of family fun.
Players of all ages and abilities were represented throughout the tournament, with one of the standout features seeing youth players lining out alongside senior club members – a fitting reflection of the bright future at Midland Warriors RFC.
There was plenty of competitive action on the pitch as Spuds Army emerged as Cup champions following an impressive series of performances. Team Cody Broderick claimed the Plate title, while Burnell & Lynch RFC proudly accepted the Wooden Spoon in the true spirit of the festival.
The smooth running of the tournament was made possible by the efforts of referees Mikey Blighe, Damien Ryan, Colin Draper, Kristian Jocher and Mike Burnell, all of whom were thanked by the club for their contribution.
Off the field, Julio Jardim kept players and supporters well fed with a popular barbecue, while Aoife Dolan and Siofra Keogh ensured the tuck shop remained busy throughout the day.
A special word of appreciation was reserved for Midland Warriors RFC fundraising officer Chloe Egan, whose dedication and months of planning were widely acknowledged as the driving force behind the festival's outstanding success.
The club also thanked Graham, Gavin, Evin and the ground staff for preparing the facilities and presenting the pitches in excellent condition. The Executive Committee and the many volunteers who helped with organisation and the post-event clean-up also received well-deserved recognition.
The festival also reflected the continued growth of Midland Warriors RFC, with the club going from strength to strength both on and off the field. Following last year's milestone celebration to officially mark the naming of the club's new pitches, work is continuing on an impressive new dressing room complex, representing another significant step in the club's development.
With the new rugby season fast approaching, Midland Warriors RFC is looking forward to welcoming returning members and encouraging new players of all ages and abilities to come through the gates and experience everything the club has to offer, both on the pitch and as part of its growing community.
Following such a successful debut, Midland Warriors RFC has confirmed that the Tag Festival will become an annual fixture on the club calendar, with plans already being discussed to expand the event in the years ahead. The festival not only showcased the growing popularity of tag rugby within the club but also highlighted the strong sense of community and volunteerism that continues to underpin Midland Warriors RFC.
