Kiltoom's Rebecca Collins to appear on Rose Of Tralee on Tuesday night
Roscommon Rose Rebecca Collins is set to appear in night two of the Rose of Tralee selection tomorrow night, Tuesday.
Roses representing Ireland and abroad will take to the stage at the Kerry Sports Academy at the MTU tonight, (Monday) and tomorrow night, from 8pm.
Presenters Dáithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas will lead the ceremonies and chat to 32 Roses over two nights. This year marks the 67th year of the festival.
Rebecca will give her live interview on Tuesday night, as she is set to appear at number 30 in the running order, following the Rose of United Arab Emirates, Enya Crone.
The 24-year-old Kiltoom native works as a Home Economics teacher at Our Lady's Bower in Athlone, a school she also attended herself in her teenage years.
Students from Our Lady's Bower had some input into some of Rebecca's styling for the tour and the finals night.
Speaking to the Westmeath Independent previously, Rebecca said the experience of being chosen as the Roscommon Rose gave her the opportunity to get to know her home county better.
“It’s given me the opportunity to visit different parts of Roscommon, meet local businesses, community groups and volunteers, and really appreciate everything that’s happening across the county. It has made me even prouder to call Roscommon home,” he said.
Since her selection, she has become the Roscommon ambassador for Mary’s Meals, a charity that provides daily school meals to children in some of the world’s poorest communities, helping increase their access to education.
“As a Home Economics teacher, this charity particularly resonates with me, and I’m incredibly grateful to play a small part in supporting such an important cause,” she said.
Rebecca said her preparations for Tralee had been a county-wide effort.
“Some people say it takes a village, but in my case it feels like it’s taken the whole county to get me ready for Tralee! I feel incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful people behind me throughout this journey.”
* The Rose of Tralee airs on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Monday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 18, from 8pm.
