Westmeath venue to host major underage golf event

Moate Golf Club is to play host to the prestigious All-Ireland Underage Inter-Club finals this week.

The action will get underway at Moate on Tuesday morning and conclude on Wednesday evening.

The event will be the first of this year’s All-Ireland Inter-Club finals, with the Fred Daly Trophy, Irish Boys’ Foursomes, Irish Boys’ Inter-Club, and Irish Girls’ Inter-Club titles all down for decision.

The famous Fred Daly Trophy quarter-finals will begin at 8am on Tuesday morning, with Portmarnock Golf Club seeking to become just the third team in the history of the trophy to retain the crown.

Portmarnock’s first ever Fred Daly title win, in 2025, was secured by defeating Galgorm Castle in a tight encounter as John Moran sank the winning putt on the 18th to defeat Harris Fleming.

Portmarnock will take on Ulster South pennant winners Belvoir Park in the opening quarter-final, while Co. Sligo face Edenderry, Galgorm Castle take on Fermoy, and Killarney play Dun Laoghaire in the other Fred Daly Trophy quarter-final ties.
