Oliver Goldsmith committee to host tour of poet's associated sites

Members of the Oliver Goldsmith committee will host a guided tour of sites associated with the renowned 18th century poet on Friday, August 21.

In support of National Heritage Week, the guided tour will start from the Three Jolly Pigeons at 6pm and then proceed to the Goldsmith Monument at Ballymahon Community library.

The tour, approximately two hours in length, will include visits to Forgney Church, the Schoolhouse, Busy Mill sites, Lissoy Parsonage, Kilkenny West Church, the Hawthorn Bush and the site of the Ale House, finishing at the Three Jolly Pigeons or the Goldsmith Monument at Ballymahon Library.

Following the conclusion of the tour at 8pm, the committee will present an evening of traditional music, song and readings from Goldsmiths works in one of the region's best known traditional, authentic pubs, The Three Jolly Pigeons.

The tour will involve some limited walking so participants are advised to bring along appropriate footwear and rainwear if necessary.
