Henshaw among Irish stars set for major cancer fundraiser in Tullamore
Athlone's Robbie Henshaw will be among a star-studded selection of Irish rugby stars in attendance at the Tullamore Court Hotel, Offaly this Friday (August 21) for a special charity event in aid of Cancer Fund for Children.
Henshaw will be among the special guests along with fellow rugby union stars Jack Conan, James Lowe, Garry Ringrose and James Ryan, who will participate in the 'Beyond a Try' event, an event that aims to raise €50,000 in aid of Cancer Fund for Children and support the development of a new therapeutic centre in Mayo.
The rugby stars will take to the stage for an exclusive panel discussion hosted by renowned rugby coach, broadcaster and commentator Bernard Jackman.
The players are expected to offer insight into life at the highest level of the game, from Six Nations campaigns and Grand Slam victories to British & Irish Lions tours, dressing-room stories, the highs and lows of professional rugby, and life beyond the pitch.
'Beyond The Try' has been organised by Nigel Reams, founder and CEO of Lumcloon Energy, who is taking part in Rory Best’s 'Miles to Mayo Challenge' with a fundraising target of €50,000 for Cancer Fund for Children.
Cancer Fund for Children supports children, young people and families across Ireland who are impacted by cancer. The charity provides specialist therapeutic and emotional support, helping families cope with the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis.
Funds raised from the 'Beyond the Try' event will help support the development of the new Daisy Lodge, a purpose-built therapeutic short-break centre currently under construction on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, Mayo.
Due to open in Spring 2027, the Daisy Lodge plans to support over twice as many Cancer Fund for Children families each year, increasing capacity from around 1,800 to more than 4,000 family members annually.
Speaking ahead of the event, Nigel Reams said:"We’re now just days away from what promises to be a fantastic night in Tullamore. 'Beyond The Try' is about bringing people together, enjoying some great rugby stories and raising vital funds for families impacted by cancer. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the event so far. To have these incredible Irish rugby players joining us, along with Bernard Jackman, is a fantastic opportunity for supporters and it’s going to be a great evening. Every ticket sold helps us get closer to our €50,000 fundraising target for Cancer Fund for Children and Daisy Lodge."
Tickets for 'Beyond The Try' are €40, with doors opening at 7pm on Friday, August 21 at the Tullamore Court Hotel.
For anyone who can’t make it on the night, there is still a chance to support the fundraiser by taking part in the 'Beyond The Try' raffle. Raffle tickets can be purchased online, with all proceeds going towards Nigel’s fundraising campaign.
