Huge figure raised in memory of popular Bealnamulla man

A charity football match held in memory of the late Colm Doyle, from Bealnamulla, Athlone, has raised over €15,000 for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

Colm, a keen football supporter, sadly passed away at Roscommon Hospice in November 2025, aged just 40.

Following his passing, his friends Sean Mangan and Brian O’Neill approached Colm’s father, Gerry, with the idea of organising a charity match in his memory.

Gerry himself is widely known in football circles locally having been a key figure in promoting women's football, in particular, in south Roscommon.

The charity match took place at Gentex FC on May 9, followed by a function and raffle at The Mill Bar, Bealnamulla, with music from Paddy Mullane. This week, Sean's family and friends presented a cheque of €15, 197.46 to Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

Through the Hospice Foundation, the Doyle family thanked everyone who played, donated, organised, sponsored, attended or contributed in any way to making the event a success.

“We will never be able to thank everyone enough that contributed in any way to the amazing success of both the football match and the evening event at the Mill Bar. It's a wonderful tribute to Colm, and a fantastic legacy of generosity in his memory', the family said.
